Sonnoria enables poets to self publish their work and link their poems to others on the
internet. The idea is to create a rich network of meaning.
Poetry creates meaning. Simple words can be created
by uttering a sound and pointing, but to express feelings or anything complex you need poetry or
something like it.
The word Sonnoria comes from 'The No Book' which was written as
mythos to create
two new words - a concept and its opposite. 'Sonnoria' is the opposite -
the floating symbol. To understand
what it means you have to read the book (it's quite short) which you can download below.
The No Book was written by Alan Bainbridge - you can find him on the authors
page.
This site is intended as a quiet place where people can create and explore meaning.
It allows poems to be presented 'on the page' and also as voice recordings. The
advantages of hearing a poem are the new insights brought by rhythm and tone.
The problem is that it is fleeting. The poem on the page is a more private
experience where you can dwell on a line, go back and forwards, and let the meaning emerge and sink in. We have enabled both.
The site is fairly straight forward but a few ideas are worth mentioning
Links
Rather than give poems themes, which tend to be artificial and restrictive, we
invite authors to link poems, either to their own or someone else's. You can
name these links and by using the same names we, as a community of poets, can
create networks of meaning. The hope is that this meaning will then emerge as
mythos. You can visualise links and networks by clicking the
'View Links' button at the top of the Poems page. If you then click on a link
name the
page reveals all the poems connected in that network and the name of links
connected to it - an emerging network of networks.
Mythos and Logos
A poem is an act of creation and synthesis. Its meaning is implicit - it emerges
in the mind of the reader almost as a revelation. This is mythos. Logos on the
other hand is about analysis. It is slower and sequential - its meaning is explicit.
These are separate and distinct ways of knowing - we give poets the opportunity
to use both.
Authors
You can read about authors, or become one, on the authors page.
Editorial Policy
Sonnoria is an internet service
provider allowing poets to self publish their work. As such we don't have an
editorial policy and it follows that we accept
no liabilty of any sort for what is written here including infringements of copyright
and libel. However, we will react to complaints possibly by removing a poem or even
an author. The copyright of all poems rests with the author.
It is our hope and intention to attact 'good' poetry from 'good'
authors. Unfortunately we don't really know what 'good' means. Sonnorian
perhaps - you will have to read the book! If you have any
suggestions on this or any other aspects of the site please email us
here.
